If you're visiting family or friends for Thanksgiving or Christmas this year, your travel might take you to places far from the sunny, moderate temperatures we experience even in December. At Premier Collision Sarasota, our fondest wish for your family is that you don't end up having to visit our Collision Center after you come back home. In that spirit, here are some holiday travel and driving tips we hope will keep you safe this year.

Travel tip #1: Get your car checked out

In the whirlwind days before Christmas, it's easy to get caught up in finishing your Christmas shopping list and, if you're headed to colder weather, making sure you have the right winter clothing together and ready to pack. You'll probably have little time to think about the actual trip to your destination, so we suggest giving that job to our dealership's Service Center.

Just ask our service center technicians to give your car an overall safety inspection in preparation for winter travel. They can check your tires for proper tread depth to keep you and your family safe. They can also make sure you aren't getting uneven tire wear and give you a tire rotation or wheel alignment. In addition, they can check your battery, windshield wipers and overall condition, then repair as needed.

Travel tip #2: Create an emergency survival kit

If you might be traveling through cold, snowy areas, you can easily put together a DIY survival kit you might be very thankful for if you run into trouble on the road. Start with a clear plastic storage box that will fit in your trunk. Add a long set of 15-ft. jumper cables and be sure you know how to jumpstart a car. Add a flashlight, a snow scraper and a bag of sand to put under your tires if you get stuck in snow.

Travel tip #3: Add other winter travel accessories

Be prepared to handle getting stranded far from Petersburg FL by packing other winter survival items in your trunk. We're talking about blankets and warm clothes, plus food that doesn't require refrigeration, like protein bars and water bottles. Find a pack of 30-minute road flares and be sure you have a plug-in charging cable for your phone. Last but not least, be sure to pack a first-aid kit.

Travel tip #4: Get acquainted with our Collision Center

We sincerely hope your Thanksgiving or Christmas travel plans will go smoothly and that you and your family all get back to Bradenton or Venice FL safe and sound.
